Mission and Outreach
Mission and Outreach is led by the Minister to address what we are doing within the walls of our church buildings, service by service.
What we are doing to care for, support and encourage the members of the congregation in their homes, schools, places of work and leisure. What we are doing out in the wider community to share the love of God.
Mission is about reaching out and serving the people of our town, our parish, our community.
Reaching out to people where they are — physically and metaphorically — to offer practical help, emotional support, care and friendship.
Church in the Community
Stonehaven Carronside Church organises activities which are not restricted to church members and attract people in the community to participate.
In St. Bridget’s hall there is a weekly Friendship coffee morning and a monthly lunch club organised by a team of church members and open to anyone to attend. This provides a service to the community in providing a place to socialise at minimal cost.
There is also a weekly indoor bowling session held on a Tuesday afternoon.
St Bridget’s hall is used daily by a wide variety of groups and individuals from outside the church on a rental basis. This brings the Community into contact with the church through using our facilities.
In St. Bridget’s, Dunnottar primary school performs its annual pantomime and serves its Burns lunch for older members of the community.
St. Bridget’s is in regular use most Saturday mornings for fundraising events by local organisations such as RNLI Stonehaven, Scouts, Friends of the Open Air Pool and the Kilwhang Ringers.
During the annual Folk Festival in July the hall is used for Folk Festival concerts and also on Hogmanay (New Year’s Eve) by the Fireball committee for briefing the Fireball swingers and providing a well placed venue from which to go out to take part in the annual ceremony.
It is also a host venue on voting day and used as a Polling Station when required.
On a weekly basis, it is used by various activity groups including the Kilwhang Ringers (a local handbell ringing group), Jazzercise, Rock Choir, Dunnottar Pipes and Drums and Tae Kwon Do.
Over the years social events such as beetle drives, family quizzes, games afternoons, ceilidhs and Easter extravaganza events have been organized.
People of all ages from our community enjoy these social events. These afternoons/evenings are also a way of outreach to non-church families in our local community and provide an opportunity to meet for fun, food and fellowship.
World Mission
Carronside Church is a Fair Trade Church. We support the work of Christian Aid in May each year when the main Christian Aid week takes place.
Retiring collections from Communion and other services are directed to other needy causes throughout the year as circumstances dictate.
October/November is the time for filling shoeboxes with presents for the Blythswood Trust's annual appeal. Around 100 boxes are donated and we can see from the videos just how appreciated these small tokens are for those who really have nothing.
Closer to home but still part of Mission, our local Christmas Giving Tree Appeal links with the Salvation Army to supply gifts to local families.
Throughout the year, there are boxes in the Church and St Bridget's for donations of groceries and toiletries for the Aberdeen Cyrenians who support the homeless and disadvantaged in the City and the local area.
India Village Ministries
‘Mony a mickle maks a muckle’ is how the old saying goes and that applies to our continued support for India Village Ministry (IVM).
Each year we are contributing our pennies to this wonderful charity. They are performing miracles with our help and prayers, giving a home and security to orphans, support to destitute elderly people and training in the Sewing School for impoverished, young girls. They should be an inspiration to us.
We have been saving our change in the ‘Wee Hooses’ for many years now.
We also run a book stall at the Thursday coffee morning, ‘Pick what you want and pay what you want’ which brings in a few pounds each week.
We also help by assigning our retiring collections at church. Please keep giving or helping us, in any way you can, to support the India Village Ministries team.
Worship Group
The Worship Group supports the Minister in a variety of ways with the planning of services, calendar of events and on occasion, in the absence of the Minister, leading worship.
During Sunday services, members of the congregation regularly assist with readings, prayers and volunteer to help with the audio visual technology.
Members of the group are among the volunteers who are part of the welcome team and who provide tea/coffee after the Sunday service.
Flower Ministry
Members volunteer to donate flowers each Sunday. These are displayed in the church for morning worship and are distributed after the service to the recently bereaved, those who are ill, those who have had a recent special event and others nominated by members of the congregation.
