The Peace Tree was planted by Provost Greig of Stonehaven on the Glebe land at Dunnottar Church just outside the east wall of the church grounds on 06 July 1919, approximately 75 yards from the road.
The original plaque is still attached to the wall and states this tree was planted to honour those parishioners who fought in the Great War. A service was conducted by the Rev DG Barron of Dunnottar Church.
A Rededication Service was held on 06 July 2019 which was conducted by Rev A Murray, Moderator of the Presbytery of Kincardine and Deeside.
The tree had almost been lost to sight by the growth of self-seeded trees and high undergrowth. With great help from SSE the land around it was cleared and the tree given a new lease of life in June of 2014. It is now quite easily accessed from the road.
The Peace Tree is a Registered War memorial and has a Tree Preservation Order.
